Democrats Demand Bush Pull TV Ad Attacking Critics of Iraq Policy (washingtonpost.com)
"Democrats have been fuming at the RNC ad, which is airing in Iowa to coincide with the Democratic debate. Senate Democratic leader Thomas A. Daschle (S.D.) called it 'repulsive and outrageous' and said Democrats oppose the way Bush has managed the situation in Iraq, not the war against terrorism. 'It's wrong. It's erroneous, and I think that they ought to pull the ad,' he said on NBC's 'Meet the Press.'
Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) answered the RNC ad with one of his own, which will begin airing in Iowa on Monday, saying Americans are united in the war on terror. 'The problem is, you [Bush] declared 'mission accomplished' when you had no plan to win the peace and handed out billions in contracts to contributors like Halliburton,' an announcer says. "
Bubba Bush is counting on the Bubba factor help him push through to 2004.
Remember that the Bubba factor is a combination of outrageous lies delivered with naive sincerity, combined with Bubba-baiting symbols like: patriotism, defense, war on terror. The RNC will be using all of this to preempt legitimate attacks on the Bush administration's track record.
At the same time, the Re-Bubba-licans will be screaming about the "outrageous claims of the Democrats". That's a code-phrase for "legimate and cogent critiques" and all Bubbas know how to interpret it.
If all of this sounds like something out of 1984, well it's no surprise, especially seeing how the Re-Bubba-licans are using Orwell's classic as a guidebook in public relations. Big Hate politics (just say "French" to ignite a frenzied session of rabid frothing at the mouth) go along with Big Lies politics (Ignorance is Strength) to achieve that final destiny of Homeland Defense (War is Peace).
